I meet such great people in the Stranger Meetup chat. Kayla is one of them. I asked her if I could interview her for a blog and she said yes! All I have to do is buy her a cheeseburger at In-N-Out burger when she finally comes to visit. Animal style, of course!
Hey there, Kayla. Tell us a little about yourself.
I’m 24, I live in the United States. I majored in marine biology, and for the past couple of years now I’ve been working on a boat examining sea creatures and testing water samples. I love getting to spend so much time on the ocean – even in the winter! And then sometimes I’m in the lab. I love the variety of it. Every day I do something a little different.
Why do you love Stranger Meetup?
Because I met you!
That’s why I love Stranger Meetup too! But what brought you to the site in the first place?
It can be hard to meet new people when you work strange hours, some of which are on a boat. I love my friends, but they have different schedules than I do. I was getting pretty lonely and you can only look through your Facebook so much before it gets boring.
StrangerMeetup seemed like a good place to find people to chat with, no matter what time it was. There was always somebody new to chat with, too. I guess I like the variety of that, too. Never thought of it that way before.
So, I like this chat room because I can chat with different people no matter what time it is, and yes, make new friends.
What was one of the funniest conversations you’ve had?
One time I was chatting with someone and one of my co-workers snuck up behind me and put a shrimp on my shoulder. Not a cocktail shrimp, but a live shrimp! I screamed from surprise and just kind of freaked out a little. I told the guy I was talking to – Matt – and he thought that was pretty funny. He said I should prank my co-worker back, so, we started sharing stories about pranks we had played. My co-worker was not happy when he was looking for his underwear the next day…
What do you wish people knew about StrangerMeetup?
That it’s just so much fun. You can also be whoever you want. Sometimes I don’t want to be Kayla, marine biologist. Sometimes I wanna be…I dunno. Vivienne, cocktail lounge singer. Becky, call center representative with an addiction to tattoos.
People have such interesting stories to tell. And even if they’re pretending too, so what? They come up with good stories! Let me tell you some time about Becky. She gets crazy calls at the call center. You’ll laugh.
